Louth County Council officially launched its Local Sports and Physical Activity Plan 2026-2031 at the Carlingford Adventure Centre, coinciding with a Teen Girls Sea Kayaking event during HER Outdoors Week. This new framework outlines the council’s commitment to enhancing sporting opportunities and encouraging active living within the county.
The plan emerged after extensive consultations with over 500 local residents and stakeholders, reflecting a collective vision of a more inclusive and supportive environment where all community members are motivated to engage in physical activity throughout their lives. It emphasises three core priorities: Active People and Communities; Active Spaces and Places; and Active Communications and Partnerships.
These focal areas will steer future investments, programme development, and collaborative efforts to ensure accessible and diverse sporting options for people of every age and ability. The launch also showcased the achievements of the Louth Local Sports Partnership, highlighting initiatives like the Teen Girls Sea Kayaking programme, which encourages greater female participation in outdoor sports. The full plan can be accessed on the Louth County Council website.
