Kildare’s top community groups vie for national honour
Kildare County Council proudly announces its two nominees for the 2026 IPB Pride of Place Competition, a national event that honours dedicated volunteers who strengthen and uplift communities across Ireland.

Carbury Village, competing in the 0-300 population category, is a close-knit rural community in North Kildare. With just around 200 residents, this group has delivered numerous initiatives focused on enhancing the village’s appearance and fostering sustainability. Projects include landscaping, outdoor gym installations, a contactless water dispenser, flagpoles, a box hedge at a key roundabout, a replica telephone box, and several historical information boards celebrating the village’s rich heritage. Their work reflects a commitment to biodiversity and climate action, aligning with county policies to unite locals and visitors in sustaining Carbury’s vibrant community spirit.

The second nominee, We Care Community Cancer, is recognised in the Community Wellbeing category. This group envisions a supportive environment where cancer patients feel embraced by their community, alleviating isolation during treatment. They provide vital home care packages for families with children under 16, allowing patients to focus on recovery. What started as a grassroots response to urgent needs has blossomed into a trusted network extending throughout Kildare and beyond, rooted in volunteerism, kindness, and a powerful sense of community. As the national judges visit Kildare, the Council extends its best wishes to both finalists ahead of the awards ceremony in Dublin this November.
