Uisce Éireann has reached the halfway mark in a significant upgrade of Carlow’s water infrastructure, currently replacing old watermains to bolster the reliability of the network. So far, 3km of the planned 6km replacement between Friarstown Pump Station and the N81/R727 junction at McGraths Cross have been completed, delivering improved water supply security for homes and businesses in St Mullins and nearby areas.
This phase follows the earlier replacement of 6.5km of watermains from Brownshill Reservoir to Friarstown Pump Station, bringing the total length of upgraded pipes in the network to over 12km. These upgrades are designed to reduce leakage, enhance pressure, and ensure a more resilient system able to support ongoing development across the county.
Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, highlighted the importance of this work: "Replacing ageing watermains reduces bursts and unplanned outages while improving water quality and pressure. This substantial investment reflects our commitment to building a stronger network for Carlow’s communities. We thank local residents for their patience during this essential work." The project is being delivered by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
