Castletownbere water network gets major upgrade
Uisce Éireann has initiated a significant upgrade to the water supply infrastructure in Castletownbere, aiming to provide a more dependable service for local residents and businesses. The works focus on replacing 2.3 kilometres of outdated and damaged water mains along L4935 and R572 roads in Felane West, which have been prone to bursts and leaks, causing interruptions and wastage of treated water.

Jack Cronin of Uisce Éireann highlighted the importance of the project, stating that these improvements will reduce leakage and boost confidence in the water supply for years ahead. The replacement pipes and new water service connections from the public mains to customers’ property boundaries are designed to strengthen the network and minimise disruptions.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. is delivering the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with works starting this week and expected to complete in October. A traffic management system will be in place to ensure safety and maintain local and emergency access. Residents can contact Uisce Éireann at 1800 278 278 or visit the Water Supply Updates section online for ongoing information. This initiative is part of a wider national effort to reduce leaks, with water loss improved from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
