The Warmer Home Expo took place on 19 October at the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise, uniting the efforts of Portlaoise 2040 Sustainable Energy Community (SEC), Age Friendly Laois, and Laois County Council's Climate Action Section. The event attracted numerous members of the public seeking to discover practical ways to make their homes warmer, more energy efficient, and environmentally sustainable.
Attendees had the chance to engage directly with specialists in home energy upgrades, solar photovoltaic systems, and energy grants. Financial institutions including Bank of Ireland, PTSB, AIB, and People First Credit Union were present to discuss green loans and other funding options for upgrading home energy systems. A particular highlight was the keen interest in the SEAI Enhanced Solar Grant, which supports solar panel and battery storage installations.
The Expo also marked the formal launch of the Portlaoise Solar Meitheal, a community initiative aimed at encouraging local homeowners to explore and adopt solar energy solutions collaboratively. Laurence O’Reilly, SEAI Sustainable Energy Communities Regional Coordinator and Mentor for Laois and Offaly, praised the event for empowering residents with knowledge and practical steps towards sustainable homes. Laois County Council extended gratitude to all partner organisations, exhibitors, and visitors who contributed to the event's success as part of the wider Laois Climate Action Festival 2026.
