A major milestone was celebrated in south Dublin today as construction officially got underway on the transformative Dún Brí development in Dundrum. Delivered through a collaborative partnership between Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Land Development Agency, the visionary project will bring 934 much-needed homes to a historically significant site previously closed off to the public. High-ranking officials, including An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Housing Minister James Browne, gathered alongside local representatives to mark the breaking of ground on the expansive residential scheme, which will feature a diverse mix of apartments, duplexes, and houses built by John Paul Construction.
The initial phase of the development will introduce 547 high-quality apartments complete with private balconies or terraces, set within a meticulously planned urban village. Beyond residential units, Dún Brí has been designed as an interconnected community incorporating a crèche, a café, retail spaces, public parks, and a welcoming civic plaza. Phase two will see the addition of a comprehensive medical centre and a dedicated community hub featuring indoor sports facilities, ensuring local residents enjoy top-tier infrastructure right on their doorstep.
Environmental stewardship and architectural heritage remain central to the master plan, with careful preservation measures safeguarding mature trees, rich biodiversity, and historic structures across the grounds. Situated just 400 metres from the Windy Arbour Luas stop and within easy reach of multiple bus corridors and the M50, the neighbourhood offers exceptional connectivity to the wider capital. Project leaders emphasised that this milestone demonstrates the immense potential of maximising public land to revitalise communities and accelerate housing delivery across the country.
