Two years following the launch of the Environmental Aid Fund, Ministers Peter Burke and Darragh O’Brien have published a comprehensive report detailing Ireland’s strides in industrial decarbonisation. The report, Driving Cost Savings for Business Through Industrial Decarbonisation, highlights government-backed support enabling Irish industries to invest in energy efficiency and renewable resources, thereby strengthening business resilience.
Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland, and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) have collectively committed €500 million through to 2030 to facilitate these investments. To date, €163 million has been allocated through the Environmental Aid Fund, supporting 43 projects projected to reduce industrial CO₂ emissions by approximately 214,210 tonnes. These initiatives are complemented by over €1 billion in private sector investment, underscoring the strategic priority businesses place on decarbonisation.
Minister Burke emphasised the government's dedication to climate action and infrastructure development, while Minister O’Brien highlighted the vital role of renewable energy access in maintaining Ireland’s economic competitiveness and energy affordability. Additionally, Enterprise Ireland’s Ross O’Colmain noted ongoing demand across sectors such as food, beverage, and cement, with continued efforts to expand industrial sustainability. The report also outlines collaborative projects with Northern Ireland, supported by the Shared Island Fund, to advance innovative decarbonisation solutions across the island.
