Energy upgrades bring community and experts together
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council hosted a well-attended Energy Upgrades at Home & in the Community event on Saturday, 10 October, welcoming more than 200 participants including residents, community groups, and energy specialists. The free gathering, organised by the Council’s Architects and Energy Team, aimed to provide practical advice and information on reducing energy consumption, lowering expenses, and enhancing the comfort and efficiency of homes and community buildings.

Attendees engaged directly with representatives from key organisations such as the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU), SSE Airtricity One-Stop-Shop, CORE Credit Union, CODEMA Dublin’s Energy Agency, and SEAI Sustainable Energy Communities, alongside a BER assessor. The event featured three focused sessions covering home energy upgrades and financing, actionable energy-saving tips, and solar energy options for households and communities, including available grant schemes for community energy projects.

Councillor Barry Saul, An Cathaoirleach, emphasised the importance of accessible, reliable information to empower residents in making informed decisions about energy efficiency. Chief Executive Frank Curran highlighted the Council’s leadership in surpassing government energy targets ahead of schedule and its commitment to supporting a low-carbon future through community engagement and practical climate action. The Council’s investments in energy-saving technologies and its nomination for the SEAI Energy Awards further demonstrate its dedication to sustainability and carbon reduction efforts, with the award winner to be announced on 4 November.
