Homeowners aiming to lower their energy costs are invited to the launch of the Portlaoise Solar Meitheal, set to take place at the Warmer Homes Expo in the Midlands Park Hotel on Monday, 19 October from 10am to 3pm. This initiative encourages homeowners to collaborate on purchasing solar PV installations, helping to secure better prices and simplify the process.

Hosted by Portlaoise 2040 Sustainable Energy Community as part of the Laois Climate Action Festival 2026, the Expo will provide practical insights on solar PV systems, home energy retrofits, available grants, financial supports, and green loans, including recently enhanced supports for solar PV and home batteries.

Kevin Manning, Energy Engineer with Laois County Council, emphasises the event’s goal to demystify home energy upgrades and facilitate direct dialogue with experts. Visitors can engage with independent professionals, contractors, and financial institutions to explore SEAI grants and new incentives such as the €600 home battery grant and increased assistance up to €9,000 for eligible homeowners. Danielle Keane, Age Friendly Coordinator, highlights the Expo’s value for older residents seeking comfortable, energy-efficient homes. Laurence O’Reily, SEAI Sustainable Energy Community Mentor, encourages all considering upgrades to attend, learn about community solar options, and register interest in the Solar Meitheal. The event is free and open to all homeowners interested in sustainable home energy solutions.
