National Broadband Ireland, in partnership with the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and Cavan County Council, has completed the primary infrastructure phase of the National Broadband Plan in County Cavan. This significant development provides high-speed fibre broadband access to homes, farms, businesses, and schools in previously underserved areas.
With this milestone, Cavan joins other counties advancing towards full national coverage, as the rollout enters its final stages ahead of completion later this year. The €65 million government investment connects approximately 17,000 premises, offering minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second, thus supporting digital equality and economic growth.
Local leaders celebrated the achievement at the Cavan Digital Hub, where Cllr Carmel Brady, Director Clive Ryan, CEO Jenny Fisher, and Council Chief Executive Eoin Doyle highlighted the transformative impact of this infrastructure. They emphasised how fibre broadband enables remote working, innovation, sustainability initiatives such as the Eco Féile festival, and stronger community resilience throughout Cavan and beyond.
