EU chemical legislation poses challenges for farmers
Olivier de Matos, Director General of CropLife Europe, recently addressed the challenges facing the agricultural sector regarding chemical regulation. He emphasised the prolonged delays in registering new products within the EU, which directly affect farmers relying on these substances for crop protection.

De Matos explained that over the past six years, more than 80 active chemical substances have been withdrawn, with only a single new product registration approved last year. This regulatory bottleneck is creating difficulties for agricultural producers who depend on timely access to safe and effective chemicals.

These developments underline the importance of ongoing dialogue between regulators, industry groups, and farmers to ensure that legislation supports both safety and agricultural productivity. Further information and discussions are available through the Tillage Edge podcast series, which covers evolving EU policies and their impact on farming communities.
