New chairperson drives unity in Gaelic games integration
The Steering Group on Integration (SGI) convened its first meeting under the new Chairperson, John Horan, on 4 November at Croke Park, signalling a pivotal advance in the ongoing unification of Gaelic games governance.

Commitment to One Association

The meeting underscored the steadfast dedication of the Camogie Association, GAA, and Ladies Gaelic Football Association to progress towards a single unified body representing all Gaelic games. The SGI’s mandate includes sustaining momentum, ensuring continuity from prior efforts, and steering the next phase of integration.

Strengthened Project Framework

To bolster the integration initiative, a reinforced project structure has been implemented. John Horan will lead a Project Team comprising the Ard-Stiúrthóirí of the three associations, supported by an enhanced project management function drawing on both internal and external expertise. Their immediate focus will be to operationalise the latest progress report and establish a strategic vision with clear milestones. This programme of work is scheduled to be presented to the Management Committee, Central Council, and Congress meetings of the respective associations in early 2027.

Engagement and Communication

The group agreed that proactive communication and meaningful engagement with members, volunteers, and key stakeholders will be central to the forthcoming integration activities. The SGI Project Team will prioritise transparency and inclusivity as the programme evolves.

New Support Role

In principle, the SGI approved the creation of a dedicated full-time role to assist clubs in embracing the One Club model. This position will provide practical support to County and Provincial Integration Workgroups and promote collaboration through joint initiatives across associations.

John Horan commented after the meeting, "There remains a strong and shared commitment across all three associations to continue progressing towards One Association. Significant work has already been completed, and there is a clear recognition of the opportunities that greater integration presents for our members, clubs, and communities. My priority as Chairperson is to ensure that momentum is maintained, that stakeholders are engaged in a meaningful way, and that there is clarity around the next steps as we continue this important journey together."

The SGI’s Progress Report, which details the substantial work completed so far and outlines foundations for future milestones, is available for viewing and download on the official website.
