Castleknock GAA drives community and sustainability forward
For almost three decades, Castleknock GAA has been a cornerstone for both sport and community engagement in Dublin, nurturing footballers and hurlers while creating lasting memories. Beyond the pitch, the club remains dedicated to supporting its local area through innovative projects and sustainable practices.

Michael Wylie, the club’s chairperson, emphasises the importance of viability in the face of climate change. Rising costs for electricity, fuel, and water, along with extreme weather events, pose challenges for clubs and members alike. Castleknock aims to build resilience by addressing these issues proactively, ensuring long-term sustainability and affordability.

The club’s initiatives include the "Greening of Somerton" newsletter and the introduction of Camán In, a solar-powered coffee service that avoids disposable cups. These efforts foster community involvement, with hundreds of members planting thousands of bulbs and trees, creating a shared sense of pride and achievement. By collaborating closely with local authorities and government, Castleknock GAA solidifies its position as a forward-thinking club committed to environmental stewardship and community spirit.
