What a remarkable transformation Ballon GAA club has experienced in just one year. After the disappointment of losing three county finals last season—in Intermediate and Junior C football as well as Junior LGFA—they have now completed a triumphant clean sweep of those championships, adding a Division 2 Football League title to their haul.
The crowning moment came last Friday when Ballon's Intermediate footballers defied expectations by overcoming Wexford's Cloughbawn in the first round of the Leinster Championship. This victory has further elevated the sense of pride and excitement within the rural Carlow community.
Jennifer Grogan, the club secretary, describes the palpable buzz around the village: "If you drive through Ballon now, red and white flags are everywhere. The roundabout has even been painted; it’s an incredible atmosphere. Losing three finals last year, two after replays, made this year’s success even sweeter. It’s all down to the dedication of our players, management, and committee. We’re also actively fundraising to expand the clubhouse, ensuring a bright future for the club and community."
