Sarsfields triumph over Maynooth in Kildare final
The Kildare Senior Football Championship final delivered a gripping contest as Sarsfields edged out Maynooth by 1-14 to 1-10 at St Conleth's Park. The game remained finely balanced throughout, but a moment of individual brilliance from Con Kavanagh in the 48th minute proved to be the turning point, securing a vital goal that ultimately separated the sides.

Maynooth, making their first senior final appearance since 1916, entered the match with immense confidence after impressive victories over reigning champions Athy and Naas. They matched Sarsfields score for score in the opening half, finishing level at 0-6 apiece. Both teams showcased resilience and skill, with Maynooth’s captain Ciarán Flanagan contributing a notable two-pointer.

In the second half, Sarsfields began to assert themselves, quickly adding points through Matt Byrne, Conor O'Donovan, and Shea Ryan. Despite Maynooth’s efforts, including long-range points from goalkeeper Mark Donnellan, it was Kavanagh’s composed strike that extended Sarsfields’ lead. The final moments were tense as Maynooth’s late goal by Paddy Ryan narrowed the gap, but Sarsfields held firm, with Ben McCormack sealing the win in injury time. This victory marked Sarsfields' 26th county title, ending a seven-year wait and cementing their place in Kildare football history.
