Clonguish triumph to claim 13th Longford SFC crown
Clonguish displayed remarkable dominance in the Peter Hanley Motors Longford SFC Final, defeating reigning champions Emmet Og Killoe 1-20 to 1-6 at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. Michael Flynn was the standout, contributing an impressive 1-09 as Clonguish ended a 17-year wait for the title. The Newtownforbes outfit delivered a disciplined, hunger-driven performance under the guidance of Dominic Corrigan, controlling the game from the outset.

Killoe started strongly with an early goal from Gavin Farrelly and points from Liam Hughes and Ryan Keogh, but their momentum stalled as Clonguish responded with over ten unanswered points. Despite losing Matthew Flynn to injury in the 15th minute, young talents James Hagan and the Flynn brothers—Cormac and Michael—tormented the Killoe defence. Clonguish’s defensive resilience thwarted every Killoe attempt to regain control, while Cormac Flynn’s point just before half-time extended their lead to 0-10 to 1-02.

The second half saw Clonguish extend their advantage with two brilliant long-range points from Michael Flynn and further scores from Jamie Dorr, Hagan, and Michael Flynn again, pushing the margin to 11 points by the 50th minute. Flynn’s late goal in stoppage time was the perfect capstone to a majestic team effort. Killoe managed a late consolation point through Daniel Mimnagh, but the champions’ dominance was clear throughout. This victory marks a significant achievement for Clonguish, who now hold 13 county titles, while Killoe’s impressive run of seven titles in 14 years came to an abrupt halt.
