Hurling rule trials kick off in higher education league
The GAA’s Hurling Expert Advisory Group (HEAG) has initiated live trials of proposed rule changes during the Higher Education Hurling League Division 1 match between UCD and Maynooth at Belfield this evening.

These trials, part of a three-round experiment, seek to enhance game fluidity, consistent refereeing, and overall enjoyment for players, coaches, and spectators alike. Chairperson John Meyler emphasised the importance of this phase as a critical step in assessing the practical impact of the committee’s recommendations.

Speaking at a press briefing in Croke Park, Meyler expressed optimism that the trials would illuminate potential improvements while acknowledging that some proposals might be discarded if ineffective. He highlighted the broader vision of evolving hurling into a more thrilling and engaging sport for future generations, aiming for moments that inspire fans to rise to their feet in admiration.
