Widespread disruption to HSE services on 14 October
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has announced that all non-urgent healthcare services will be cancelled nationwide on Wednesday, 14 October, as a result of public sector work stoppages. This suspension includes routine hospital procedures, outpatient clinics, community day services, and scheduled care in primary care settings. Administrative services within the HSE will also be disrupted during this industrial action.

Healthcare teams have started reaching out directly to patients whose appointments are affected, assuring that all cancelled services will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity. Despite these interruptions, emergency departments, ambulance services with reduced capacity, and critical urgent treatments such as cancer care and dialysis will continue to operate. The public is urged to seek emergency assistance without delay by calling 999 or 112 or attending their nearest emergency department.

General practitioners, GP out-of-hours services, and pharmacists will remain available in the community to provide support. The HSE is actively consulting with health sector unions to clarify which services can continue on the day of the strike and will provide further updates as more information arises. The organisation apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s patience during this challenging period.
