Boil water notice issued for Newport and environs
Residents of Newport town and surrounding communities including Birdhill, Ballina, Gortybrigane, Ballinahinch, and Killoscully have been urged to boil their water before drinking, food preparation, or brushing teeth until further notice.

This advisory was implemented after a drop in raw water quality impacted treatment at the local plant, prompting Uisce Éireann to consult with the Health Service Executive (HSE) to protect public health. Around 8,000 customers are affected by this precautionary measure.

Pierce Faherty of Uisce Éireann emphasised the priority placed on safe water supply and the swift actions taken to address the issue. Customers are advised to check their status via the water.ie website by entering their Eircode or by contacting Uisce Éireann’s 24/7 helpline at 1800 278 278. Updates, maps of the affected area, and real-time alerts are also available online and through social media channels.
