Minister for Defence, Helen McEntee TD, recently initiated a fresh bus shelter campaign designed to encourage citizens to enlist in Civil Defence. This targeted effort spans 100 locations across Kildare, Kerry, Cork, Limerick, and Carlow, showcasing the varied and fulfilling opportunities available to those who serve.
Civil Defence volunteers form a backbone of community support nationwide, working closely with local authorities and emergency services. Their responsibilities range from assisting at community gatherings to participating in search and rescue missions, offering medical aid at events, and responding to severe weather conditions. Members also benefit from recognised training in specialised skills, developing expertise that strengthens their local impact.
Minister McEntee emphasised the invaluable contribution of Civil Defence members, encouraging those wishing to give back to consider joining during the traditional autumn recruitment period. The campaign aligns with the Government’s broader efforts to enhance community preparedness, following the recent Be Emergency Ready campaign launch. An organic social media campaign will also roll out later this month to further highlight the vital work of Civil Defence volunteers.
