€7.5bn boost for childcare, disability and child safety
Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley and Minister of State Emer Higgins announced a €7.5 billion investment for Budget 2027 that will transform childcare affordability, disability provision and child protection nationwide. The Department of Children, Disability and Equality’s allocation will rise to €7.597 billion, enabling higher subsidies, lower weekly fees and expanded supports for families and vulnerable groups.

From September 2027 the National Childcare Scheme subsidy will increase to €2.50 per hour and the maximum weekly fee for core‑funded providers will fall to €250, cutting a typical full‑time family bill by about 25 percent – roughly €2,200 a year. The income threshold for the scheme will be lifted to €38,500, and the Access and Inclusion Model will extend to children under three, benefiting an estimated 1,000 youngsters. Core funding for over 4,600 providers will rise by more than €170 million, and €50 million will be ring‑fenced for new early‑years employment regulations.

Disability services will receive over €4 billion, including 212 new residential placements, €15 million for additional respite sessions and 150 new posts for Children’s Disability Network Teams. Tusla will gain more than €1.4 billion, funding ten new Family Resource Centres and doubling its multidisciplinary therapy teams. A transitional after‑care allowance of €200 per week and higher foster‑care payments will support care leavers, while Oberstown Detention Centre will add 33.5 staff posts. The package also funds equality and inclusion initiatives for Traveller, Roma, LGBTIQ+ communities and survivors of historic institutions.
