Local groups miss out on €100,000 green fund
South Dublin’s community-led climate and biodiversity projects have missed the opportunity to benefit from the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF) 2026 after the application window closed on 7 August. The €100,000 initiative, a partnership between South Dublin County Council (SDCC) and IPB Insurance, aimed to empower Tidy Towns groups, residents’ associations, and voluntary organisations to deliver visible environmental improvements across the county.

Mayor of SDCC, Councillor Francis Timmons, launched the fund in July at Rathfarnham Castle Park, emphasising its role in supporting practical projects that align with Ireland’s climate and biodiversity goals. “This joint initiative will provide the support to empower Tidy Towns members and voluntary community groups to deliver visible and practical environmental improvements in local areas,” he stated. Graham Orr, Director of Member & Client Relations at IPB Insurance, highlighted the fund’s significance during the insurer’s Centenary Year, noting its alignment with the mutual’s ethos of giving back to communities.

Grants ranging from €1,000 to €25,000 were available for projects such as pollinator-friendly planting, tree planting, renewable energy installations, water conservation measures, and waste reduction initiatives. Applicants were required to collaborate with at least one other community stakeholder, such as schools, sports clubs, or community gardens. Further details on the fund, including applicant guidelines, are available on the official SDCC website.
