The Health Service Executive (HSE) has welcomed the Government’s approval to proceed with the new National Maternity Hospital at the St Vincent’s University Hospital Campus in Elm Park, Dublin. This decision paves the way for signing the construction contract and commencing building works, with John Sisk & Son appointed as the main contractor and Designer Group as the reserved specialist for mechanical and electrical systems.
Anne O’Connor, CEO of the HSE, described the approval as a landmark moment for women’s health in Ireland, acknowledging the dedicated efforts of colleagues across the National Maternity Hospital, St Vincent’s Healthcare Group, the HSE, and the Department of Health. Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill emphasised that the facility will deliver state-of-the-art maternity, neonatal, and gynaecological care co-located with acute services, ensuring immediate access to specialist care for women and newborns with complex needs.
Following a detailed Pre-Construction Services Agreement to solidify the construction timeline and costs, enabling works at the site are nearly complete. Main construction is set to begin in early 2027, with project completion anticipated by 2033. The hospital will serve as a national tertiary referral centre, hosting one of Europe’s largest colposcopy services and regional centres for fertility, endometriosis, and ambulatory gynaecology. Key stakeholders, including Professor Jennifer Walsh, Master of the National Maternity Hospital, and Conall O’Halloran, Chair of St Vincent’s Healthcare Group, highlighted the benefits of modern facilities offering privacy, dignity, and comprehensive care. Paul Brown, CEO of Sisk, expressed confidence in delivering a project that will enhance healthcare quality and access for women across Ireland.
