Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton has unveiled an €80 million investment under the 2027 Climate Action Summer Works Scheme, approving 229 projects nationwide. This scheme supports schools in upgrading their facilities to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and lower operational costs while addressing urgent building needs.
The approved projects cover a wide range of works including roof repairs, window replacements, electrical and mechanical improvements, toilet upgrades, and the installation of energy-saving measures such as LED lighting and enhanced insulation. Special emphasis has been placed on supporting special schools, ensuring these vital institutions benefit from the scheme’s sustainability objectives.
This announcement marks the second tranche following applications submitted in 2025, with works primarily scheduled for summer 2027. Schools must register with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and commit to annual energy reporting to qualify for funding. The scheme forms part of the Government’s National Development Plan, which allocates substantial funding for modernising school infrastructure and advancing climate action goals over the coming years.
