TradFest unveils new all-Dublin community orchestra
TradFest, Ireland's premier trad and folk festival, has inaugurated a pioneering ensemble known as the TradFest Community Orchestra. This innovative group invites musicians of all backgrounds, instruments, and genres from every part of Dublin to collaborate and create a unique, collective sound. Applications opened on 4 September for those aged 18 and above eager to join this exciting new venture.

Building on TradFest's rich tradition of nurturing artists, the Community Orchestra represents its most ambitious grassroots undertaking to date. Spanning the city centre through to Fingal, South Dublin, and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, this orchestra reflects the diverse musical landscape of Dublin and marks a strategic move towards a year-round participatory project extending beyond the January festival schedule.

Under the musical direction of Tom Doorley, celebrated flautist and founding member of the Trad supergroup Danú, the orchestra promises an inclusive space where classical discipline meets traditional spirit. Musicians from fiddle players to electric guitarists, cellists to drummers, are invited to shape this fresh sound and community. As Artistic Director Kieran Hanrahan emphasises, this initiative is about uniting Dublin’s musicians to create something truly original, regardless of background or training. Interested musicians residing, working, or studying in Dublin are encouraged to apply via the official TradFest channels.
