The Arts Council presented an inspiring array of cultural events at the National Ploughing Championships 2026, held in Tullamore. The programme featured sean-nós dance and traditional music performances alongside interactive workshops such as lace making and storytelling, designed to engage children and young people.

Leading sean-nós dancer Becky Ní Éallaithe and musician Muireann Ní Shé delivered stirring performances, while award-winning storyteller and theatre-maker Aindrias de Staic joined forces with composer and multi-instrumentalist Aisling Lyons and musician Brian Fleming in the storytelling show By the Light of the Silvery Moon. This captivating production intertwined folklore, myth, music, and humour, drawing audiences into Ireland’s rich cultural tapestry.

Hosted in the Celebrating Culture and Creativity marquee within the Government of Ireland Village, the Arts Council’s presence reflected its ongoing dedication to supporting artists rooted in rural communities. Chair Maura McGrath highlighted the importance of connecting with farming backgrounds and encouraged visitors to explore the live performances and creative activities on offer, which showcased the impact of state funding on Irish arts and artists.
