Manchester prepares to host massive urban sports festival
Manchester is poised to cement its status as a global epicentre for street culture when it launches the groundbreaking MCR Drop festival next summer. Scheduled to run from 5 to 8 August 2027, the four-day event will transform iconic urban spaces into dynamic stages featuring elite skateboarding, BMX, and 3x3 basketball competitions alongside cutting-edge musical acts and contemporary art exhibitions.

Developed through a strategic partnership between Manchester City Council and UK Sport, the initiative aims to inspire physical activity while driving tourism. Councillor Shazia Butt and UK Sport executive Esther Britten both highlighted the festival's potential to engage diverse, younger audiences, with cultural programming expertly curated by Factory International to showcase the city's legendary creative pedigree.

With the vast majority of events and community workshops free to the public, local participants and visitors alike will have ample opportunity to join the sporting action. Further announcements and participation guidelines are available on the official website for those wishing to engage with next year's landmark summer celebration.
