Children's Book Festival 2026 brings nationwide inspiration to Laois
This October, Laois Libraries will proudly roll out the Children’s Book Festival 2026 across local schools and branches as a key highlight of the national Right to Read initiative. Throughout the month, young people will have wonderful opportunities to meet some of Ireland’s most talented creators through a vibrant series of interactive events. From captivating Irish folklore and magical adventures to hands-on drawing workshops and historical mysteries, this year's schedule aims to spark a lifelong love of reading and creativity in every participant.

The extensive schools programme features sixteen unique author and illustrator events hosted in libraries throughout the county. Young readers will meet acclaimed figures such as bestselling novelist Ciara Geraghty, fairytale enthusiast Méabh McDonnell, heritage storyteller Emma-Jane Leeson, and mythology expert Sinéad O’Hart. The lineup also includes award-winning writer Eve McDonnell, talented illustrator Úna Woods, Clare-based author Laura Keohane, and local Laois animator David Butler, allowing hundreds of students to ask questions and discover the secrets behind their favourite stories.

In addition to these author visits, Laois Libraries will host inspiring Fighting Words workshops where participants will collaborate to craft original tales, hone their writing skills, and build self-confidence. Full details and event schedules are available on the official Laois County Council website.
