Jacobs AECOM appointed to lead MetroLink build
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has formally appointed Jacobs AECOM as the Programme Delivery Partner (PDP) to oversee the construction and commissioning of MetroLink, Ireland’s first metro system. This appointment follows a rigorous procurement process and will see Jacobs AECOM work closely with the MetroLink team to manage the complex phases of the project, ensuring delivery within budget, timeframes, and stringent safety and quality standards.

The MetroLink line will span 19 kilometres from Swords to Charlemont, featuring 16 new stations and providing a swift 25-minute journey into Dublin city centre. Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien, emphasised that this contract award highlights significant progress in delivering one of the State’s most substantial infrastructure investments. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to enhancing public transport through ongoing investment in sustainable, high-quality infrastructure.

Anne Shaw, CEO of the National Transport Authority, described the PDP appointment as a critical milestone in realising a modern, high-capacity transport network that will benefit communities for generations. Lorcan O’Connor, CEO of TII, noted that Jacobs AECOM’s involvement signals a transition from planning to full delivery, bringing world-class expertise and governance. Michael Flynn, Interim Programme Director, confirmed that the team is fully mobilised, with the PDP providing essential on-the-ground management to transform plans into a physical metro system. Once operational, MetroLink is expected to carry up to 53 million passengers annually, integrating seamlessly with Irish Rail, DART, Luas, and bus services.
