Lough Lene Gaels triumph in Westmeath final
Lough Lene Gaels ended a long wait to reclaim the Westmeath senior hurling championship, edging Raharney 1-16 to 0-16 in a pulsating final at TEG Cusack Park, Mullingar. This victory marked their first county title in 24 years and their eighth overall, ending the heartbreak of three consecutive final defeats.

Raharney started strongly, taking an early two-point lead through scores from Killian Doyle and Robbie Greville. However, Lough Lene Gaels soon responded with a series of points including a fine score from Ryan Williams and three successful frees from captain David Williams. Despite Raharney rallying with four unanswered points before halftime, the Gaels trailed 0-9 to 0-7 at the break.

The second half saw Lough Lene Gaels surge ahead, spearheaded by David Williams who notched points from play, frees, and a crucial 35th-minute penalty after Marcus Kennedy was fouled, leading to a red card for Raharney’s Jamie Mulkearns. Kennedy added further scores before Raharney fought back, but the Gaels held firm with key points from Philip Reilly and David Williams to secure a memorable championship win. The final whistle confirmed Lough Lene Gaels as deserving champions of Westmeath once again.
