Kilanerin clinch first Wexford SFC title since 2008
Kilanerin triumphed in the Wexford Senior Football Championship final, overcoming St. Martin’s 1-15 to 0-12 at Chadwicks Wexford Park. The game’s turning point arrived in the 52nd minute when substitute Vincent Higgins netted a crucial goal, propelling Kilanerin to their first title since 2008 and ending an 18-year wait for silverware.

St. Martin’s, the 2013 champions, had started strongly, recovering from recent hurling setbacks and leading 0-7 to 0-5 after 41 minutes. However, Kilanerin responded with an impressive scoring spree, including three two-pointers between the 43rd and 47th minutes, driven by the Hughes brothers and Páraic Hughes, shifting momentum decisively.

Earlier in the match, Kilanerin commanded the opening exchanges, building a 0-4 to no-score lead within sixteen minutes, despite a key goaling chance being saved by St. Martin’s goalkeeper Ryan Sinnott. The sides were level at half-time following a late two-pointer by Barry O’Connor for St. Martin’s. After a brief St. Martin’s resurgence in the second half, Kilanerin’s clinical finishing and Higgins’s timely goal sealed their eighth championship victory. Key contributors included Páraic Hughes, Dean O’Toole, and the Hughes cousins, with the team completing a memorable comeback to lift the Seamus Keevans Cup.
