Gaa handball unveils ambitious four year strategic roadmap
GAA Handball officially launched its ambitious Strategic Plan for 2027-2030, establishing a clear roadmap designed to boost participation, empower local clubs, and significantly raise the profile of the sport over the coming years. Centred on three core pillars encompassing visibility, pathways, and club structures, the strategy outlines measurable targets to be achieved by the end of the decade, including a twenty per cent increase in current membership figures. Key initiatives feature the doubling of collaborative participation programmes with the wider GAA, the development of hundreds of certified referees, and the integration of handball into a greater number of traditional Gaelic games clubs across the island.

A comprehensive review of existing competitions will examine calendars, formats, and grades to introduce flexible tiered structures that appeal to players of all abilities. Efforts to enhance visibility will incorporate annual national awareness campaigns, innovative street handball events in urban public parks, and a landmark showcase at Croke Park. Director General Tom Ryan welcomed the launch, praising the potential for handball to enrich community life within the broader association, while President Kevin Cooke highlighted that the strategy builds upon a successful recent period of organisational renewal.

Chief Executive Officer Lizzy Lynch emphasised that the blueprint was shaped through extensive consultation with members and stakeholders, ensuring a balanced approach combining ambition with practical realism. The strategy will be supported by detailed annual operational plans and quarterly progress reports to ensure accountability and sustainable growth. The complete planning document is available for review on the official website.
