South Dublin community groups receive vital environmental funding
South Dublin County Council has officially confirmed the successful recipients of the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF) 2026, marking a significant investment in grassroots sustainability. A total of €100,000 has been distributed among 19 community-led initiatives, ranging from Tidy Towns groups and residents’ associations to sports clubs and local schools. This national scheme, a partnership between IPB Insurance and local authorities, was launched earlier this year at Rathfarnham Castle Park by Mayor Francis Timmons to celebrate the insurer's centenary.

The funding attracted immense interest, with the council receiving over 30 applications for these high-impact projects. Mayor Timmons emphasised that the initiative provides essential support for volunteers striving to deliver tangible environmental improvements. Graham Orr, Director of Member and Client Relations at IPB Insurance, noted that the programme reflects a shared commitment to strengthening local areas and fostering a collective sense of responsibility towards our shared environment.

Successful projects are now set to deliver a diverse array of enhancements, including the installation of rainwater harvesting systems, solar photovoltaic arrays, and the creation of organic heritage apple orchards. Furthermore, the funding will support educational workshops on biodiversity, the establishment of repair cafés, and the introduction of pollinator-friendly habitats. Residents interested in reviewing the full list of successful projects and their respective allocations can find detailed information on the official South Dublin County Council website.
