Uisce Éireann has initiated significant works to replace worn and damaged water mains in Portlaw, aiming to ensure a dependable supply for residents. The project involves installing 900 metres of modern pipework from Darrigal to Poldrew Bridge, designed to reinforce and improve the resilience of the local water network.
Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, highlighted the importance of these upgrades, stating they will reduce leakage and bolster community confidence in their water supply for years ahead. He emphasised that each replaced pipe contributes to a more reliable service that benefits every household and tap in the area.
The works, delivered by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann, commenced in early August 2026 and are scheduled for completion by year-end. Customers can seek updates or raise queries by calling 1800 278 278 or visiting the Water Supply Updates section on the Uisce Éireann website. The project forms part of a broader national effort to reduce leakage, which has dropped from 49% in 2014 to 36% currently, reflecting ongoing progress in managing Ireland's extensive underground pipe network.
