Remembering Paul Quinn 19 years on
On Tuesday, 20th October 2026, the solemn anniversary of Paul Quinn's murder will be observed, marking 19 years since the 21-year-old was brutally attacked in County Monaghan. On the evening of 20th October 2007, Paul and a friend were ambushed by a group of eight to ten masked and armed men at Tullyvanus, Castleblayney. They were tied up, and Paul endured a violent assault before the assailants fled in a white van that remains missing.

Throughout this prolonged investigation, 23 individuals have been arrested across jurisdictions, including 14 by An Garda Síochána and 9 by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Both forces maintain close cooperation, particularly along the Monaghan and Armagh border, in their pursuit of justice. Detective Superintendent Ronan Carey has expressed gratitude for community assistance while renewing an urgent appeal to those in the Cullyhanna area and beyond who may hold crucial information.

Detective Superintendent Carey emphasised the importance of coming forward, especially to those who have long carried the burden of knowledge about the events that night. He urged anyone with information to contact Castleblayney Garda Station, any Garda or PSNI officer, or use confidential phone lines, ensuring all details will be treated with complete discretion. The Quinn family, particularly Paul’s parents Breege and Stephen, continue to endure profound loss, and the authorities remain dedicated to achieving closure for them.
