North West Hospice Roadshow Educates 225 Students
The North West Hospice Transition Year Roadshow, part of Palliative Care Week 2026, saw more than 225 students from St Mary’s College, Ballisodare; Coola Post Primary School, Ballinamore Community School; and Summerhill College, Sligo, engage in a one‑hour session that challenged misconceptions and broadened understanding of palliative care.

Before the session, many students admitted they had never heard of palliative care or associated it solely with end‑of‑life support. Interactive talks delivered by the Hospice clinical team, including personal anecdotes from families and patients, prompted post‑session questionnaires to reveal a significant increase in knowledge and a shift in attitudes.

Jacinta Kelly, Director of Nursing, praised the enthusiasm of students and Transition Year coordinators, noting the initiative’s role in fostering early empathy and compassion. Schools wishing to host the session during the 2026/2027 academic year can contact Ms Kelly at [email protected] for further details.
