New noise monitoring network launched in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has officially activated a network of eight real-time environmental noise monitors designed to enhance transparency regarding local sound conditions. These sensors, which were commissioned throughout September 2026, are strategically positioned within areas previously identified as Priority Important Locations under the current Noise Action Plan. This deployment aims to provide a clearer picture of how transport-related noise impacts specific residential zones.

The project serves as a cornerstone of the broader Dublin Agglomeration Noise Action Plan 2024-2028, a collaborative effort between local authorities to mitigate the effects of prolonged noise exposure. By utilising data derived from the 2022 Strategic Noise Maps, the Council intends to protect quieter spaces while simultaneously addressing areas where sound levels may negatively influence community wellbeing. This evidence-based approach ensures that future environmental management policies are grounded in accurate, longitudinal data.

Members of the public are encouraged to engage with the initiative by accessing the live sound level data available on the official Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council website. While noise levels naturally fluctuate due to traffic, weather, and time of day, this platform offers a valuable resource for residents to understand their local environment. The Council maintains that this programme represents a significant step forward in their ongoing dedication to public health and data-driven civic planning.
