New campaign launched to boost disability careers
Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley, alongside Minister of State Emer Higgins, has introduced a compelling national campaign encouraging careers in the disability services sector. This initiative arrives amid a substantial government commitment, with Budget 2027 allocating funding for an additional 930 posts next year, supplementing nearly 1,000 new positions already added this year as part of the HSE Disabilities Services Pay and Numbers Strategy 2026.

The campaign aims to illuminate the diverse and rewarding career paths available within disability services, emphasising the vital role staff play in enabling disabled people to live fulfilling and independent lives. It forms part of a broader strategy addressing workforce shortages and fostering a robust pipeline of talent interested in this field. Collaboration with the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science supports the expansion of healthcare education places across Ireland’s universities.

Building on previous steps, including the approval of 461 additional annual training places in disability therapy disciplines in 2025 and a further 274 places announced this year, the campaign will utilise social media, radio, and online videos featuring real-life experiences from workers and service users. The initiative targets prospective students, graduates, early-career professionals, and those contemplating a career change, guiding them to gov.ie/disabilitycareers for comprehensive information on education routes and employment opportunities within the sector.
