Monaghan Hospital’s garden wins national acclaim
Monaghan Hospital has proudly been named one of four national finalists in the Age Friendly Environment category at the National Age Friendly Awards 2026, celebrating its transformative Healing Garden. This inspiring outdoor space was designed to aid rehabilitation, provide comfort for people living with dementia, and offer a place for remembrance.

The initiative, led by Lynda McGrory and her dedicated team, revitalised a hospital garden into a welcoming sanctuary for patients, families, and staff. The project’s success reflects a remarkable collaboration involving local businesses, schools, community groups, and volunteers, all contributing through donations, fundraising, and hands-on support.

Laura Waters, General Manager of Cavan and Monaghan Hospital, praised the collective effort behind the garden, emphasising the positive impact it has on patient wellbeing and family experience. The Healing Garden exemplifies how thoughtful environments can foster healing, independence, and social connection, earning heartfelt congratulations from HSE Dublin and North East to everyone involved.
