Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, officially opened a new inclusive outdoor play area at Cnoc na nÓg pre-school in Straide, County Mayo, on Saturday, 24 October 2026. The playground, which received €58,045 from the 2025 CLÁR fund, ensures children of all mobility levels can enjoy outdoor activities together.

The CLÁR programme supports small-scale infrastructural projects across rural Ireland, focusing on enhancing community facilities. Since 2020, it has allocated over €68 million nationally, including €5.7 million for 123 projects in County Mayo, reflecting a strong commitment to rural revitalisation.

At the event, Minister Calleary praised the collaboration between local stakeholders, highlighting the importance of accessible spaces where young children can learn and flourish. He expressed satisfaction that the Department’s support through CLÁR and other schemes is helping to make rural communities vibrant places to live, work, and raise families. He also commended the dedication of the Board of Management, teachers, parents, and the wider community for bringing this project to fruition.
