Kerry families invited to celebrate National Breastfeeding Week events
Families across Kerry are invited to participate in a diverse range of free events taking place as part of National Breastfeeding Week, which runs until 7 October 2026. A variety of community activities will be hosted in towns such as Dingle, Tralee, Killarney, Castlemaine, Listowel, Kenmare, Castleisland, and Caherciveen. These initiatives include developmental play sessions, welcoming breastfeeding support groups, family resource centre gatherings, and informative online webinars designed to guide parents through early childhood care.

This year's campaign theme, ‘Every Step Forward: Strengthening Support for Babies and Families’, recognises the significance of encouraging parents at every milestone of their feeding experience. The comprehensive programme will feature online talks and recorded sessions addressing confidence building, maternal nutrition, returning to employment while nursing, specialised support for babies with Down syndrome, and practical advice on expressing milk and introducing bottles.

Michelle McNamara, Healthy Ireland Primary Care Lead for HSE South West, emphasised that the week serves as a wonderful opportunity to celebrate local parents and the resources available to them. Whether expecting a baby or seeking reassurance as a new parent, families can connect with welcoming local services throughout the county. Further details and scheduling information are available on the official HSE website.
