HSE rolls out winter vaccination drive in Dublin South
The Health Service Executive has officially initiated its 2026-2027 Winter Vaccination Programme across Dublin South, aiming to safeguard the public from the seasonal surge of flu and COVID-19. Following a challenging previous year that saw thousands of hospitalisations and hundreds of fatalities linked to influenza, health authorities are prioritising preventative care to ease the burden on the national health system.

Specific cohorts, including those aged 60 and over, pregnant women, healthcare workers, and individuals with chronic underlying conditions, are strongly advised to receive their vaccinations. Furthermore, children aged between two and 17 years are eligible for a free nasal flu vaccine. The programme is designed for convenience, allowing patients to receive both flu and COVID-19 doses during a single appointment at participating GP surgeries or local pharmacies.

Dr Carmel Mullaney, Regional Director of Public Health for the HSE Dublin and South East region, emphasised the necessity of this initiative in mitigating health risks for vulnerable groups. For those unable to attend clinics, dedicated HSE teams will facilitate vaccinations in residential care settings and for housebound individuals. Further details regarding eligibility and clinic locations are available on the official HSE website.
