HSE promotes breast screening in Gorey this October
The Health Service Executive (HSE) is encouraging women aged 50 to 69 in Gorey to attend their free breast screening appointments provided by BreastCheck during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. This service operates 24 mobile units nationwide, bringing vital screening closer to women’s homes to aid early detection of breast cancer, which improves treatment outcomes.

Despite the importance of screening, nearly 40% of women miss their initial appointment, and 30% fail to attend when offered a second chance. BreastCheck urges women who cannot make their scheduled appointment to contact the service to reschedule or arrange screening at a different location. This helps maximise appointments and benefits the wider community.

Gráinne Gleeson, BreastCheck Programme Manager, highlighted the support available for women, including flexible appointment dates, alternative locations, accessible facilities, and clear information. Women can contact BreastCheck via the details on their invitation letter, telephone 1800 45 45 55, or email [email protected]. The Gorey mobile unit will remain at Gorey Health Centre until all eligible women in the area have been invited, with appointment details also accessible through the HSE Health App. Women new to screening are encouraged to register online at hse.ie/breastcheck to ensure their details are current.
