Health service rolls out seasonal flu and covid vaccines
The health service officially launched its seasonal immunisation campaign today, ensuring both influenza and coronavirus jabs are readily accessible to safeguard the public against severe illness during the colder months. Last season saw thousands of confirmed infections requiring hospital admission, intensive care support, and sadly resulting in numerous fatalities across the country.

Under the current guidelines, individuals aged 60 and over, alongside those with specific underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems, are strongly advised to receive both protective doses. Furthermore, healthcare personnel, expectant mothers, and children aged between two and 17 years are recommended to take up the influenza vaccine to minimise transmission within schools and communities.
Neither jab carries a charge for qualifying groups, and both can be administered during a single consultation. Local GPs and pharmacies are offering the appointments, while dedicated mobile teams are visiting residential care settings and housebound individuals to ensure comprehensive coverage nationwide.
