Hse and AsIAm collaborate on neurodivergent healthcare access
HSE Dublin and South East recently joined forces with AsIAm to host a pioneering stakeholder workshop in County Wicklow, bringing Autistic service users together with frontline healthcare staff. The collaborative gathering took place at the Parkview Hotel in Newtownmountkennedy, creating a vital space for patients and clinicians to address systemic accessibility challenges within local medical settings.

This important event formed a core element of an ongoing regional pilot programme spanning four acute and community services across Dublin South and Wicklow, including disability networks, dental clinics, and mental health teams. Regional engagement lead Lorna Kerin praised the remarkable openness and shared commitment shown by attendees, emphasising that genuine partnership relies heavily on active listening and clinical leadership.

Fiona Ferris, Deputy CEO of AsIAm, highlighted that medical environments must accommodate diverse sensory needs and communication styles so that every individual can seek treatment with confidence. Building on these insights, the three-year pilot project will continue to integrate lived experiences into practical service improvements across the health network.
