Children from Gaelscoil Inis Córthaidh recently delighted audiences with a traditional Irish music and dance performance at the Creative Activity Garden within the HSE’s St. John’s Community Hospital campus in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. This amphitheatre-style space serves as a vibrant hub for community gatherings and wellbeing activities.
Following the performance, a cheque was presented to the school to assist in the development of a Sensory and Occupational Therapy Room. This donation was raised through a fundraiser organised by Trish Carty, Clinical Nurse Manager 2, alongside colleagues from the HSE’s Wexford Residential and Intellectual Disability Service. Trish expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting the importance of sensory rooms as safe spaces that positively impact wellbeing.
Founded in 1995, Gaelscoil Inis Córthaidh relocated to a purpose-built facility in Drumgoold, Enniscorthy in 2013. Earlier this year, the school and its Parents' Association embarked on various fundraising efforts, including local bucket collections and cake sales, successfully gathering thousands of euros for the Sensory Room. Dr Denise Rogers, Senior Clinical Psychologist and parent of pupils at the school, praised the event for fostering joyful memories and meaningful connections, thanking teachers for their dedication. The Creative Activity Garden project itself benefits from partnerships with Wexford County Council, Creative Ireland, and other local organisations, supported by government funding through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
