GAA promotes lifesaving CPR training at Croke Park
The GAA Medical, Scientific & Welfare Committee partnered with the Irish Heart Foundation to deliver a HeartSaver CPR AED Course at Croke Park on Saturday, October 17th, in recognition of World Restart a Heart Day. This essential training was provided to National Referees, GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association staff, alongside match day stewards, aiming to enhance emergency response skills across the Gaelic games community.

Over 40 attendees successfully completed the course, which was led by qualified instructors from the Gaelic Games & RNLI Basic First Aid initiative. The programme highlighted the critical value of timely CPR and defibrillator use in saving lives during sudden cardiac events.

A poignant moment came when Stephen Keith, former Down Senior Hurling Goalkeeper and cardiac arrest survivor, shared his personal experience. After collapsing post-workout, immediate CPR administered by a nurse and quick access to defibrillators were vital to his recovery. Stephen emphasised to participants the life-changing impact of knowing CPR and AED operation during emergencies, inspiring all to be prepared to act swiftly.
