Clondalkin community shines with composting success
The recent celebration in Clondalkin highlighted the impressive achievements of local volunteers who took part in the Community Leaf and Green Waste Composting Pilot Programme. Mayor Councillor Francis Timmons presented certificates to the Tidy Towns, Residents Associations, and Clondalkin Global Garden Community members in recognition of their dedication and hands-on learning.

Under the expert mentorship of environmentalist Craig Benton, participants gained valuable skills in converting leaves and green waste into nutrient-rich compost. This practice not only improves soil fertility and moisture retention but also bolsters biodiversity and lessens reliance on chemical fertilisers, aligning with South Dublin County Council’s Circular Economy and Sustainability goals.

A special thanks was extended to the Clondalkin Global Garden Community for hosting the event and introducing their first wormery. This community garden exemplifies the harmony between environmental stewardship and social care, as its fresh produce is shared with local foodbanks, community groups, residents in direct provision, and families, enriching the entire area.
