Cavan secures funding to bolster local online safety
The Cavan Local Community Safety Partnership has successfully secured €50,000 to launch a vital countywide initiative focused on shielding young people and vulnerable residents from the rising tide of digital harm. By addressing pressing issues such as online bullying, image-based abuse, and digital exploitation, the programme seeks to foster a more secure and supportive environment for all members of the community.

Spearheaded by An Garda Síochána in close collaboration with the Local Community Safety Partnership, this project unites experts from the education, youth, and statutory sectors. The initiative will deliver Garda-led awareness sessions and provide schools and community groups with practical toolkits designed to clarify the nuances of Coco’s Law, consent, and effective reporting mechanisms for those impacted by online abuse.

Amanda Murray, the coordinator of the Cavan Local Community Safety Partnership, described the funding as a pivotal step toward empowering the next generation with the confidence and knowledge required to navigate digital spaces safely. Further details regarding the upcoming workshops and community engagement activities will be available on the official Cavan County Council website as the rollout commences.
