Connemara National Park unveils new family facilities
Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, officially opened a cutting-edge children’s playground at Connemara National Park in Letterfrack, County Galway, on Wednesday 26 August 2026. During the same event, he also initiated construction on 6.1 kilometres of new trails in the Mweelin area, with plans to make approximately 70% of these paths accessible, positioning the park as a leader in inclusivity.

The new playground offers families an improved recreational space, while the expanded trail network enhances visitor options for exploring the breathtaking landscape. Connemara National Park is celebrated for its rugged wilderness, scenic Diamond Hill hike, diverse habitats, and panoramic views of the Twelve Bens mountain range and the Wild Atlantic Way.

This development forms part of a strategic partnership between the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and Fáilte Ireland, supporting the Connemara Coast and Islands Destination Experience Development Plan. Officials emphasise that these enhancements will enrich visitor enjoyment, promote sustainable tourism, and maintain the conservation of the park's unique natural environment.
